ACCREDITATION: Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.  

CREDIT HOURS: All credits are certified in terms of “Semester Hours”.  A semester hour is credit given for work in which the class meets in recitation once per week for one semester. 

REQUIREMENT FOR GRADUATION: Prior to June 1, 1989 students must have 62 hours for the Associate Degree and 124 hours for the Baccalaureate DegreeStudents beginning their college career after June 1, 1989 must have 64 hours for the Associate Degree and 128 hours for the Baccalaureate DegreeStudents beginning their college career after June 1, 1999 must have 64 hours for the Associate Degree and 124 hours for the Baccalaureate DegreeBeginning July 2017, students must have 60/120 hours respectively for associate/baccalaureate degreesEffective August 2003, MSSU began offering joint graduate programs in cooperation with other public four-year institutions in the State of MissouriBeginning August 2015, MSSU added stand-alone graduate programsRequirements for graduation will vary according to the cooperative institution. 

REPETITION OF COURSES: Courses may be repeated.  Prior to fall 2019, the grade earned in the previous attempt will be excluded and the last grade will be used in computing the grade point average. Beginning in fall 2019, the highest grade will be used in computing the GPA calculation. 

COMPLETION OF DEGREE: The transcript will indicate the type of degree or certificate, date awarded, major and minor. 

COMPUTATION OF GRADE POINT AVERAGE: To compute the grade point average, the total quality points (QPts) are divided by the total hours GPA-Hrs.  The following grades accrue no quality points and are not computed in grade point average (GPA): AU, BK, CR, IN, IP, LP, NK, NO, P, SA, SB, SC, SD, SF, U, and W.

  • 1-299 Jr. College Level 

Since 1967:

  • 0-99 Not Applicable to Baccalaureate Degree 
  • 100-199 Primarily for Freshmen 
  • 200-299 Primarily for Sophomores 
  • 300-399 Primarily for Juniors 
  • 400-499 Primarily for Seniors 

 

Continuing Education

1974 to present:

  • 500-599 Undergraduate lower division 
  • 700-899 Undergraduate upper division 
  • 900-998 Non-college credit 

 

Presently

  • 0000-0099 Not Applicable to Baccalaureate Degree 
  • 0098 Continuing Education Courses 
  • 0099 Community Services Courses 
  • 0100-0199 Primarily for Freshmen 
  • 0200-0299 Primarily for Sophomores 
  • 0300-0399 Primarily for Juniors 
  • 0400-0499 Primarily for Seniors 
  • 0500-0799 Graduate Courses (as of August 2003)  

SUPPORT LEVEL COURSES:  Grades with an “S” preceding another grade symbol indicate support or remedial courses which are not included in the GPA and the credit hours are not counted toward the credit hours needed for graduation. 

 

Transcript Abbreviations

  • HN = Honors Courses  
  • WI = Writing Intensive (ended fall 2015) 
  • E = Exclude/ Repeated courses is excluded from the semester and cumulative. 

 

GPA Calculation

  • I = Included course is included in the semester and cumulative GPA.   
  • A= Include course is included in the semester and cumulative GPA, but credit hours are not earned due to repeat.  
  • E = Excluded in the GPA calculation.

  • “S” Superior, 2 points 
  • “M” Average, 1 point 
  • “I” Inferior, 0 points 
  • “F” Failure, 0 points 
  • “WF” Withdrawal failure

  • Audit (No Credit) 

Fall 1965 to Spring 1968, 4-point system:

  •  “A” Excellent, 4 points 
  • “B” Superior, 3 points 
  • “C” Average, 2 points 
  • “D” Inferior, 1 point
