Welcome and thank you for visiting the web site for the University Police Department of Missouri Southern State University. It is our hope that by providing information regarding the services provided by this department the students, faculty/staff, parents and visitors will have a more positive experience.
To assist in our effort to enhance communication, MSSU has contracted with the Joplin Police Department (JPD) to provide dispatching services for the University Police Department.
For situations that are not an emergency, but still require a police officer to investigate (thefts, non-injury traffic accidents, assaults, etc.) please call 417-623-3131 (JPD Communications) and they will direct a UPD officer to the incident location.
For service calls, please continue to call 417-626-2222. Those calls would include vehicle unlocks and jump starts, building access, parking issues, lost items, safety and training programs, information, etc.
If you should have questions regarding this change or would like additional information, please call James Swift, MSSU Police chief, at 417-625-9741.
If you would like to give the University Police Department a tip about a crime on Southern's campus you can send the information to UPD@mssu.edu
