Seal of Biliteracy Program

MSSU participates in the Seal of Biliteracy program by awarding qualifying students’ credit in language classes for their achievements in earning the Seal. The credit awarded is determined by the student’s performance on the Avant Standards-Based Measure of Proficiency (STAMP 4S).

  • Earning six hours of these ELEC 100 credits will satisfy six hours of area 5A of our general education curriculum and six of the hours required in modern languages for any BA at MSSU.
  • Earning these six hours of ELEC 100 and six hours of ELEC 200 (by scoring at least Intermediate Mid on each skill) will satisfy the 5A general education requirement and the full modern languages requirement of any BA at MSSU.
  • Earning these six hours of ELEC 100, six hours of ELEC 200, and six hours of ELEC 300 (by scoring at least advanced low on each skill) will
  • satisfy the 5A requirement, the modern languages requirement of any BA program, and six hours of upper division credit.
  • Elective credits will be applied ONLY to Degree Audits to meet degree requirements.
  • They will not be applied to the student’s transcript as elective transfer credits.
  • The Office of the Registrar will apply the credits upon receipt of a memo from the Department of Language and Literature indicating which degree requirements have been met.
  • As with all alternative credits, students transferring from MSSU to any other institute of higher education should expect that other institution to assign all alternative credits, including those earned through the Seal of Biliteracy, according to their established policies.
