Attendance and Re-enrollment Policies

Enrollment Confirmation (Lionet)

If you are pre-registered for an upcoming term, you must confirm whether you plan to attend.

Confirmation deadlines

  • Fall: August 1 – Monday of the 3rd week of the semester
  • Spring: January 1 – Monday of the 3rd week of the semester
  • Summer: May 1 – Monday of the 2nd week of the 8-week session

You’ll receive reminders each semester through your MSSU email and other channels.

Important: If you do not officially cancel your registration, you are responsible for tuition and fees. Not attending class does not count as withdrawing.

Class Attendance

Missouri Southern does not have a university-wide attendance policy beyond the initial roster period. However, regular attendance is strongly encouraged, as it directly impacts academic success.

  • Instructors may track attendance.
  • Grades are based on how well course objectives are met.
  • Missing class puts you at risk for lower academic performance.

For financial aid purposes, if you miss 10 consecutive class days, your instructor will report your last date of attendance to the Registrar.

If absences are due to illness, university activities, or extenuating circumstances, instructors may work with you and may request documentation.

Attendance Rosters & Being Dropped from a Class

  • 16-week courses:
If you do not attend or participate during the first two weeks, you may be dropped.
  • Part-of-term courses:
If you do not attend or participate during the first week, you may be dropped.

Re-Enrollment

If you are dropped from a class, re-enrollment may be possible the week after rosters are submitted.

  • In-person or mixed classes:
Pick up a Re-Enrollment form from the Registrar, get instructor and Bursar approval, then return it to the Registrar.
  • Online-only classes:
Email your advisor and instructor for approval and copy the Registrar and Bursar offices. Approval from both is required.
