Year-End Giving

Thank you for considering

The Missouri Southern Foundation would like to personally thank you again for your support of the University. The impact of your generosity on the lives of our students cannot be overestimated. Gifts to the Foundation support the mission of MSSU, for the ultimate benefit of the students.

As another year comes to a close, we would like you to again consider the Foundation in your charitable gift commitments and tax planning. The end of the tax year is an excellent time to make an additional gift.

This year, we especially encourage you to give an unrestricted gift to the Southern Annual Fund. Unrestricted funds provide MSSU with maximum flexibility to meet urgent and strategic needs. Any amount that is meaningful to you makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. Generous scholarships, updated equipment, and improved facilities at Missouri Southern are the direct result of your giving.

Your donation at this point in the year would help us demonstrate to other key groups – faculty, staff, boards, friends and alumni – that there is strong support and leadership behind this important cause.

Please consider making a year-end gift that is meaningful to you. All gifts to the Southern Annual Fund will make a meaningful difference to students at MSSU.

Charitable IRA Rollover

The Charitable IRA Rollover can be a tax-wise way to give to the Missouri Southern Foundation.

What is a Charitable IRA Rollover?

Sometimes, an individual who holds an IRA does not necessarily need all the income from that IRA. If you have an IRA and are over 70 1/2 years of age, you can gift up to $105,000 directly from your IRA to a charity like the Missouri Southern Foundation and that gift is NOT considered taxable income.

The Internal Revenue Service reminds individual retirement arrangement (IRA) owners age 70½ and older that they can make up to $105,000 in tax-free charitable donations during 2024 through qualified charitable distributions. That’s up from $100,000 in past years.

For those age 73 or older, qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) also count toward the year's required minimum distribution (RMD).

Generally, IRA distributions are taxable, but QCDs remain tax-free if sent directly to a qualified charity by the trustee. To make a QCD for 2024, IRA owners should contact their IRA trustee soon to ensure the transaction completes by year-end.

For those planning ahead, starting this year, the QCD limit is subject to annual adjustment, based on inflation. For that reason, the annual QCD limit will rise to $108,000 in 2025.

We encourage all of our donors to always consult your attorney or tax advisor when considering a charitable gift.
