Social Work Degree

about the program

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at Missouri Southern State University prepares students for professional social work practice in a wide range of community and human service settings. This accredited undergraduate program provides the knowledge, skills, and values needed to support individuals, families, groups, and communities.

The BSW is designed for students who want a career centered on helping others, advocating for equity, and promoting social and economic well‑being. Through coursework and supervised field education, students learn how to apply social work theories, conduct assessments, and use evidence‑based, strengths‑based approaches.

Graduates are prepared for entry‑level social work roles, state licensure at the bachelor’s level, and advanced study in a Master of Social Work (MSW) program. MSSU also plans to launch an MSW, giving students a seamless pathway to clinical or leadership positions in the field.
