Application Review and Decisions
Once an application is deemed complete, the application and supporting documents are carefully reviewed by the Social Work faculty to verify that all requirements have been are met.
Students will be notified via MSSU email by the BSW Program Director of their full acceptance, conditional acceptance, or non-acceptance into the Bachelor of Social Work major. Applicants are requested to send a return email stating whether they accept or decline the admission offer. All applicants will be notified prior to registration.
- Acceptance
- Student is granted full admission to the program.
- Students accepted will automatically be enrolled in core social work courses and will meet with a faculty advisor in person, remotely or through email communication to ensure an understanding of their plan of study.
- Conditional Acceptance
- The student may be conditionally accepted into the program with specific conditions or recommendations that the student will need rectify, such as improving their GPA, completion of credit hours beyond four semesters to meet credit hour requirements for bachelor degree, or other academic expectations. The conditions that need to be remedied will be outlined for the student in the written communication they receive.
- Students who are accepted conditionally will receive a written plan outlining specific requirements ended to be fully accepted into the BSW program. Student will notify the BSW Program Director within five (5) working days to confirm if they agree to the written plan. The student can also meet with the BSW Program Director and /or advisor. A completion timeline will be documented in the plan and the plan will be placed in the student file.
- Students accepted will automatically be enrolled in core social work courses and will meet a faculty advisor in person, remotely or through email communication to ensure an understanding of their plan of study.
- Non-Acceptance
- A student that is denied acceptance into the program. The reasons for non-acceptance will be provided to the student. Examples include, failure to comply with GPA, missing application documents, or serious concerns regarding the student’s professional behavior.
- Students who are not accepted to the BSW program will be responsible for meeting with their advisor to transition into another major.
