Spiva Art Gallery

The MSSU Spiva gallery is an integral partner in the cultural life of the University, the greater Joplin metropolitan area, Southwest Missouri, and the Four-States Area, the Spiva Art Gallery showcases a diverse range of exhibitions by international, national, regional, and local artists including students and faculty. The gallery focuses on exhibiting emerging and established artists working within current issues and practices in the various visual arts disciplines combined with educational programming of artists' lectures, workshops, gallery talks, and community outreach events to promote academic dialogue and cultural enrichment for both our students and region.

Gallery hours are typically Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday (During the summer, the gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm). Some exhibitions and events include additional hours. Also note, the gallery is closed between exhibitions.

Located on the main floor of the Fine Arts Complex, the gallery is immediately to the east of the main entrance to the art building. Daytime visitor parking (during regular business hours) is located across the street, in front of the building, near Hearnes Hall. The easiest and closest handicap parking is located behind the art building near the double doors numbered “19” which includes a ramp and automated door openers (at the end of the hallway the gallery is to the right). This parking lot is accessible by heading south on Duquesne Road and is open to all visitors after 5:00 pm on weekdays and on all weekends. Exhibits are typically displayed in an open area that is wheelchair friendly. Additional accommodations can be made for specific needs.

Currently the Spiva Art Gallery requires social distancing to be maintained at all times within the gallery and face coverings are required to be worn by all students, faculty, staff, and visitors on our campus.

All exhibitions, lectures, and events are free and open to the public.
