License Plate 

Collegiate License Plates

The Missouri Southern license plate program allows you to show your pride and school spirit by sporting the official MSSU license plate. The plate has the Missouri Southern Lion logo and the university's colors, green and gold. The state requires that the MSSU plate be personalized with up to 6 letters and/or numbers.

Who Qualifies

Missouri residents who own or lease a passenger vehicle, truck, RV or motorcycle registered in the state of Missouri. 

Getting Your Plate

You may order a tag at any time by contacting the Office of Alumni and Donor Relations. New tag holders will be given an Emblem Use Authorization Statement  and a Missouri State 1716 form to take to their local DMV office. The 1716 form will be used to submit options for your personalized plate. The state requires that the plate be personalized and charges an additional $15 per year. The educational license plate program does provide TWO plates per vehicle.

Cost Payment & Voucher

Choose any of the following ways to obtain your MSSU license plate:

  1. Make an online $25 or $50 tax-deductible gift, then email alumniassoc@mssu.edu  or call 417-659-5466 requesting an emblem authorization form.
  2. Mail a $25 or $50 check to the MSSU Office of Alumni & Donor Relations, with “license to learn” on the memo.
  3. If you have already donated more than $25 in the current fiscal year, email alumniassoc@mssu.edu or call 417-659-5466 to request your form.
  4. If you have donated through annual Lionbacker dues, email alumniassoc@mssu.edu or call 417-659-5466 to request your form.

After your donation has been processed, your emblem authorization form can be sent to you via email or USPS, or you can pick it up in person at the Ralph L. Gray Alumni Center. This form will be required at your local DMV upon your renewal.

Effective Date & Renewal

The personalized license plate is valid for one year based on an annual renewal of the plate through a $25 gift to MSSU and a $15 cost to the state. To renew for two years, it would be a $50 gift to MSSU and a $30 cost to the state*.
* NOTE-Vehicle owners may only obtain two year registration for an even model year vehicle in an even calendar year, or for an odd model year vehicle in an odd calendar year.
