Master of Science in Sport and Recreation Management

about the Degree

Missouri Southern State University’s Master’s in Sport and Recreation Management is designed for students who want to build careers in athletics, fitness, and community recreation. The program prepares graduates for leadership roles by combining practical skills with a strong understanding of the business side of sports and recreation.

Students will learn:

  • Business and leadership strategies
  • Facility and event management
  • Marketing, promotions, and sport branding
  • Program development and recreation administration

Because the program is offered online, students can complete their recreation management master’s degree from anywhere in the world.

Admission Requirement: A GPA of 3.0 is required. Applicants below this threshold may submit a writing sample for consideration.

program format

The Sport and Recreation Management master’s program offers two flexible formats to meet the needs of working professionals:

  • Online (asynchronous): Students can complete the degree entirely online, at their own pace, from anywhere in the world. This format is ideal for those balancing careers in the sports and recreation industry with graduate study.
  • Hybrid (online + classroom): Students may also choose a hybrid option that combines online coursework with in-person classes on campus in Missouri. This format provides opportunities for face-to-face collaboration while maintaining the flexibility of online learning.
