Post 9/11 - Distance Learning Students

Monthly Housing Allowance Rules and Rates

  • Distance Learning Student - Exclusively online (internet courses only) receive a monthly housing allowance from the VA based on service percentage, rate of pursuit, and 1/2 the national average for BAH.
  • Active duty service members and their spouses using Post 9/11 education benefits are not eligible to receive a monthly housing allowance under this education benefit due to them already receiving a basic allowance for housing from the military.
  • Students enrolled half-time or less and using Post 9/11 education benefits will not receive a monthly housing allowance.

Rate of Pursuit for Military-Affiliated Students

The VA uses the student's rate of pursuit in school and term dates to calculate all VA education benefit payments.
