IACUC Requirements

Required Certifications

All faculty, staff, and student researchers involved with an active IACUC protocol must provide evidence of completion of online training provided by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI).

Only faculty and staff can be listed as the primary investigator on an IACUC protocol submission and should submit training certifications simultaneously with the proposed protocol.  Students cannot submit an IACUC protocol without a primary investigator.  Primary investigators should ensure that undergraduate students working in any capacity under a protocol obtain the same training certification prior to their participation.  Principal investigators should store certifications for evidence of protocol compliance during IACUC protocol review.

Here is what you should do for the ethics training:

  1. Go to the CITI Ethics Training website at https://www.citiprogram.org/.
  2. Register for the site.
  3. Click on Missouri Southern State University Courses.
  4. Select “Working with the IACUC course” and any other research-specific modules
  5. Study the material and take the quizzes. A score of 80% or higher is required.
  6. After module completion, download the certification and keep on file.
