Required Certification and Training

Members of the IRB and Human Subjects Review Panels must provide evidence of completion of the online training provided by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). 

Faculty, staff, and student researchers submitting an application to the IRB, and faculty who supervise student(s)  human subjects  research, are required to complete the CITI training.

The CITI training can be found at: https://www.citiprogram.org/. New users will need to complete the registration process before signing into the training system. 

For IRB and Human Subjects Review Panel members, the certificate provided at the completion of the training must be uploaded to the member's IRBNet profile. It will be maintained with the reviewer’s qualifications for the IRB. Training must be completed before reviewing IRB applications, and renewed every three years.

For researchers, the certificate of completion must be uploaded to the user's IRBNet profile AND linked to any submitted projects. For information on how to upload and link training documents to IRBNet please review the IRBNet Training Manual

For students:

Here’s what you should do for the ethics training:

  1. Go to the CITI Ethics Training website at https://www.citiprogram.org/.
  2. Register for the site.
  3. Click on Missouri Southern State University Courses.
  4. Select the "Students Researchers Basic Course" Module.
  5.  Scroll down to Supplemental Modules.
  6. Study the material, and take the quiz. You need to pass with an 80%. You can then download your certificate document, as you will need it for your IRBNet User Profile.

For faculty supervisors:

Here’s what you should do for the ethics training:

  1. Go to the CITI Ethics Training website at https://www.citiprogram.org/.
  2. Register for the site.
  3. Click on Missouri Southern State University Courses.
  4. Select “Social and Behavioral Research – Basic/Refresher."
  5. There are 15 modules to complete. Each one takes about 10 - 15 minutes.
  6. Once complete, you can download your certificate document, as you will need it for your IRBNet User Profile.
