Online Advising

Advising Services for Distance Students

As an online student at MSSU your success is important to us. The Student Success Center strives to provide and connect students with the resources needed to be successful in their education.

As advisors, we are responsible for helping guide students toward academic success, providing assistance and referring students to resources, and helping students understand their responsibilities. The Student Success Center Advisors provide secondary advising support to online students. We are here to help you connect with your advisor and to address questions and concerns you may have. Whenever you send in a question or concern, any member of the Advising team may assist you. You have the support of the whole team.

As an online student your responsibilities include monitoring your academic progress, understanding your degree requirements and university policies, participating in all classes, balancing study, work, and social time, using university resources to help you succeed, and working with your advisor to explore educational options or address concerns.

Students are assigned advisors based on their declared major.

Students with a Declared Major or Pre-Major are advised by an academic advisor in the department of their major/pre-major.

If your department has not yet assigned advisors, contact the department for guidance or, seek assistance from the Student Success Center.

If your major is undeclared/undecided, Bachelor of General Studies, or Bachelor of Applied Science, you will be assigned an Academic Advisor in the Student Success Center.

Non-degree seeking students are not assigned a specific advisor. They are advised by advisors in the Student Success Center.
