Welcome!  What a fantastic time to live in the world that you live in!  The opportunities you have are wide open; you can be anything you want to be, travel anywhere you want to travel, and meet lifelong friends who are from all over the world!  Your journey begins now – With Convocation !  You’ll meet the University President, Dr. Alan Marble, you’ll meet faculty and staff, and alumni.  Convocation is a ceremony designed to officially welcome you – The First Year Student and your families!  Come meet your University Course Assistants, students who are ready to give back and share what they have learned through the First Year Student Experience!  We can’t wait to meet you, bring the whole family and enjoy the day!


First-Year Student Traditions

Welcome to College Life!  This is the time to Learn, to Grow and to Share.  Start building your memories now; you are about to embark on a fantastic journey and we are here to share the paths to friends, fun and classroom success! Bring your camera for the Medallion Ceremony and make sure to smile for the traditional class photo!  Freshmen who attend the First-Year Convocation will receive a medallion to be worn at graduation and will receive a Lion Pride weekend t-shirt to be worn in the freshmen class picture.   After the photo, you and your family will join us for the Traditional Reception – Let the Journey Begin!

Additional Information

First-Year Student Convocation is scheduled for Saturday, August 19th at 2:00 PM. Families and guests are encouraged to attend. Please dress appropriately, business-casual is preferred.  If you are a person with a disability and require accommodations for this event, please contact our office at 417-625-9731 at least 72 hours in advance.
