The Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) Esports program, known on campus as MOSO Esports, has wrapped up an impressive season, highlighted by dominant regular-season performances and multiple post-season appearances across several titles.
The MSSU Gold team competing in Marvel Rivals delivered a perfect 7-0 match record and a 21-0 round-by-round record. Each victory came with MSSU having a 3-0 in best-of-five series play. The team secured the title of Regular Season Conference Champions before falling in a contested 2-3 series against Robert Morris University Academy in the Division VIII quarterfinals.
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, MOSO Esports continued its strong showing with a 9-1 regular season record, suffering its only loss to the University of Kentucky (485-498). Demonstrating resilience and growth, MSSU Gold avenged that loss in the semifinals with a decisive 2-0 series victory over Kentucky, earning a spot in the Division VII Championship match. The team will face the University of South Florida on Sunday at 7 p.m., with the championship streamed live on Twitch at twitch.tv/mosoesports.
Meanwhile, MSSU Gold’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate squad posted a 6-1 regular season record, with their only defeat coming against Hendrix College, a longstanding rival across multiple esports titles. Finishing with the second-best record in Division IV, the team now turns its focus to the postseason, where they will face Sacramento State in the Division IV Quarterfinals on Monday, March 30 at 8:30 p.m. The match will also be streamed live on the program’s Twitch channel.
Additional MSSU Esports teams competed in Overwatch (2-6), Rocket League (4-3), and a junior varsity Mario Kart squad (1-9). While these teams did not qualify for postseason play, they contributed to the program’s continued growth and competitive development.
“The growth our team has shown this season has been incredible. This is without a doubt the most successful season we’ve had as an organization in terms of involvement, competition, and playoff representation. I’m incredibly proud of these players and the hard work they’ve put in to represent MSSU. We’re excited for our playoff teams and hopeful that this semester brings the first Division Title in MOSO Esports history.”
Fans are encouraged to tune in and support MSSU’s esports teams as they compete for division titles both this weekend and beyond.
