Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) is proud to announce the appointment of Derrick Bready as
assistant professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities. Bready brings more than two decades of choral teaching and leadership experience to MSSU.

Bready comes to MSSU from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma, where he served as director of Choral Studies and Music Education. His responsibilities included directing choral ensembles and teaching choral methods, choral literature, and aural skills courses.
A seasoned music educator, Bready spent 20 years in Texas public schools, where his choirs consistently earned acclaim and national recognition. His ensembles were invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association and Southwestern American Choral Directors Association conferences multiple times between 2010 and 2014. In 2015, the Pearland Kantorei Madrigals Choir, under his direction, won first place at the prestigious American Classics Madrigal and Chamber Choir Festival in San Antonio. The choir returned the following year as the festival’s featured Honor Choir.
Bready holds degrees in music education, conducting, and sacred music from the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of Houston, and Baylor University. He is expected to complete his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Baylor this summer.
In addition to his educational accomplishments, Bready has also served as a church music leader for Baptist, Methodist, and Lutheran congregations. He is also a former member of the Grammy Award-winning Houston Chamber Choir, where he performed for seven seasons.
Welcome to MSSU Mr. Bready!
