Cost: MSSU tuition (15 hours), room and board. Housing at Kansai Gaidai is either with a Homestay (2 meals/day included) or in the "Global Commons" international student residence (kitchen-facility available). There is also a ¥10,000 deposit, a ¥10,000 International Student Fee, and mandatory ¥4,300 for Liability Insurance & Medical Assistance Fee.

Kansai Gaidai University offers an Asian Studies Program that features a wide variety of courses taught in English by experienced scholars. The aim of the program is to provide international students with a means of exploring Japan and Asian Studies while they reside in Japan. Previous Japanese language training is not an absolute requirement, but some background in the Japanese language is recommended. Students can enroll in the program for either one semester or one full academic year. Nominations for the fall semester are due May 15. Nominations for the Spring semester are due November 1. The fall semester starts August 21, 2025, and final exams are December 11-15. The Spring semester 2026 starts January 26 and final exams are May 25-29. Kansai Gaidai is located in the city of Hirakata (population 405,000), midway between Osaka, Japan’s second largest industrial metropolis, and Kyoto and Nara, the ancient capitals of Japan.
