Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost

Missouri Southern State University invites applicants for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Candidates for Provost should exhibit strong leadership skills and the ability to execute a vision of academic excellence, scholarly achievement, and service to the Joplin community and surrounding region. Candidates should have the ability to create a student-focused learning environment and provide leadership and direction to each of four schools – Arts & Sciences, Education, Business Administration, and Health Sciences. The Provost will earn the respect of faculty, students and staff by showing dedication to the institution and commitment to serving the academic community, and will be an effective voice on behalf of the faculty.

Areas of authority will include budget development; program assessment; institutional accreditation; and ensuring that the curriculum meets the needs of the University’s mission and the changeable nature of disciplines and delivery systems.   

MSSU serves nearly 6,000 students in nearly 200 academic programs. Its outstanding NCAA Division II athletics programs, award-winning themed semesters, and enriching cultural events in theater, art, music and film create an engaging learning environment for students and citizens of the region. MSSU is located in Joplin, Missouri, in the southwest corner of the state. An earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution and experience in teaching and academic leadership is required. Experience in a public college or university is preferred. Director of Human Resources

The Director of Human Resources, reportable to the Vice President for Business Affairs, has the responsibility for strategic leadership in the planning and implementation of quality-based human resource (HR) programs for all faculty and staff.  The Director will lead university-wide HR functions, including recruitment, compensation, payroll, labor relations, benefits, training and policy design and administration. Duties include but are not limited to day-to-day management of all of the HR department functions; administering benefit programs such as insurance, retirement, and leave plans; administering and updating salary administration programs; overseeing recruitment, interviewing, and selection of employees; writes directives for department managers regarding EOE, compensation, and employee benefits. The Director acts as the University contact with legal counsel in personnel-related hearings, investigations and HR policy compliance; addresses employee complaints; and oversees other various human resource policies and practices. 

Master’s degree in a related field plus seven to ten years related experience and/or training required. Certification preferred. Assistant Director Physical Plant

Missouri Southern State University is currently accepting applications for the Assistant Director of the Physical Plant. The Assistant Director will provide leadership and management to the physical plant personnel and implement programs and policies related to the maintenance of the campus buildings and grounds. Responsibilities include but are not limited to directing, planning, coordinating and administering the work activities of the custodial, grounds, mechanical maintenance, painters and carpenters maintenance crews.  Develops and implements necessary programs to ensure proper allocation of staff, training, equipment, contracted services and operating funds. Baccalaureate degree required. Engineering or closely related field preferred. Master’s degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. A minimum of five years related experience and/or training in maintenance and/or construction project management are required. Experience in a higher education setting including custodial, grounds, and maintenance is preferred.
