POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Assistant Professor Teacher Education

The Teacher Education Department is seeking applications for three full-time tenure-track Assistant Professors for Teacher Education beginning August 2015. Qualified faculty will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in face-to-face and online formats; have relevant classroom and teaching experience.  Other responsibilities may include student advisement, candidate assessment in clinical field experiences, collaboration with public school partners, active participation in department, school, university, and community service, as well as scholarly/creative activity related to educator preparation.  Summer and satellite courses may be available.  There are several areas of need and the position involves teaching courses in another area as qualified.

AREAS OF NEED:

Generalist: Primary duties include teaching professional courses such as Pedagogy for undergraduate and graduate programs.

Social Studies Methods: Primary duties include teaching undergraduate Elementary, Middle, and Secondary methods courses. 

Middle Level Education: Primary duties include teaching undergraduate Middle Level Education courses.

Graduate Program Coordinator:  Primary duties include the recruitment and advisement of students, logistical planning for current programs, syllabi preparation and collaboration to promote existing programs and determine areas of need.

Technology/Data Assessment:  Primary duties include coordination of data collection efforts, providing leadership in program assessment and data-driven decision-making, as well as providing professional development for 21st century educators.

Qualifications:  Rank and tenure status are dependent on qualifications. Terminal degree in related educational field is preferred; ABD and Master’s degree in related discipline considered; successful teaching experience in pre K-12 schools; the ability to work cooperatively as faculty team member; be willing to invest in the use of current best practices and 21st century technology.

Director of Clinical Field Experiences

This 12-month full-time clinical instructor appointment is available due to retirement.  It is a three-quarter time administrative and one-quarter time teaching position with open faculty rank.  Responsibilities include: placing teacher education students in all field experiences, initiating and keeping records associated with field placements including assessments, selecting field sites, convening meetings and seminars for students/cooperating teachers/supervisors, coordinating professional development activities for recent graduates, conducting surveys of recent graduates, troubleshooting, participating in national accreditation activities, chairing the student admissions and retention committee, maintaining program integrity, teaching, advising students, engaging in scholarly activities, and providing service to the area.  The director of clinical field experiences reports to the Dean of the School of Education.

Qualifications:  Master’s degree in education or a related field, doctorate preferred, successful teaching and/or administrative experience in pre K-12 schools, ability to work cooperatively with internal and external constituents, capacity to organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, skills in utilizing technology, skills related to current assessment practices, and ability to represent the university in a professional manner.

Adjunct Instructor(s), Elementary Education Program in Jane, Missouri

Missouri Southern is seeking applicants for Adjunct Instructors to teach in the newly developed Elementary Education Degree Completion Program at the satellite site in Jane, Missouri. Available positions include teaching courses in the junior block: 1) Pedagogical Theories, Methods and Practices, 2) Microteaching and 3) Classroom Management as well as Language Arts for Elementary Teachers beginning August 2015.
