Memorial Service Scheduled

President Bruce Speck is inviting students, faculty and staff to participate in a campus Memorial Service to Remember, Recognize and Renew at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 in Taylor Performing Arts Center.

In this gathering, the University community will memorialize our lost loved ones, colleagues and friends.

The service also will recognize the sacrifices of so many in the MSSU family who endured and contributed so much during the disaster and throughout the recovery.

This event will acknowledge our changed environment and our efforts to support each other as we rebuild our personal lives, repurpose our professional endeavors and renew our community spirit.

Please make plans to attend.

The Appreciation Committee would like to invite all MSSU faculty and staff to a cookout on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 11:45 a.m.to 1:15 p.m. on the patio behind BSC (outside of Card Services office).

Academic Year Luncheon

The President’s Council invites all full-time faculty and staff, retired faculty and staff and current and former Board of Governors members to the “Beginning of the 2011-2012 Academic Year Luncheon.”

“The Joplin community and our own MSSU community will never be the same! Since each academic year is a new beginning in many ways, we think it appropriate to come together as we prepare to continue to do what we do - EDUCATE STUDENTS”.

“In recognition that each of you contribute to the success of our mission, we want all full-time faculty and staff to attend.  Also in appreciation of the dedication and work of retired staff and faculty, we want to honor them by inviting them to this luncheon.  Due to space restrictions, spouses are not invited.”

The luncheon will be held from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17 in the Billingsly Student Center Ballroom

Come dressed in your work clothes of the day with a big appetite and a grateful heart.

Are you interested in teaching a one-credit class populated with 12-18 Honors Students?

Michael Garoutte, Honors Program Director, says the Honors Program is seeking applications and nominations for a faculty member to teach sections of HNRS 101 (Honors Forum) and HNRS 201 (Service Learning) for the fall 2011 semester. Honors Forum, which is required for incoming Honors Scholars, meets for one 50-minute period each week. Yours would be one of three sections of HNRS 101 to be offered simultaneously and coordinated with instructors of the other two sections.

"We are also looking for faculty interested in teaching HNRS 201, the one-credit Service Learning course," Michael adds.  "Either course could be treated as part of a regular teaching load or a one-hour overload contract (funded by Academic Affairs)."
