Wind Ensemble

 

This select ensemble is open to instrumental music majors and non-majors of qualified musical ability. The ensemble will study and perform challenging wind ensemble and symphonic band literature from the baroque, classical, romantic, and 20th century. contemporary music. The ensemble will prepare and present several concerts during the year. Auditions for this highly selective group, occurs during the first week of each semester. Symphonic Band

 

The Symphonic Band at Southern is the largest concert band offering on campus. This group begins as soon as the marching season is over. The group is open to any interested student and does not require an audition. The band performs the finest in concert literature from the masters as well as contemporary. Recent performances have included works by Prokofieff, Shostakovich, Holst, Grainger, Persichetti, Whitacre, Gillingham, and Tichelli.

 

The MSSU Symphonic Band is under the direction of Mr. Rusty Raymond.

Lion Pride Marching Band

 

 

The “Lion Pride” Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. Rusty Raymond, thrills thousands each year while performing at MSSU football games, high school marching band competitions, high school football halftimes, and parades. The Marching Band has also performed at NFL Football halftimes, and Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Lions Roar Pep Band

This highly spirited group is made up of members the popular Lion Pride Marching Band. Auditions for this select group occur during the first week of October each year. The band is well known for its high energy performances and vocal support for the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

All members selected for the Pep Band receive an additional stipend of $300.00 each season.
