The MSSU Southern Symphony Orchestra will present a concert called "La Musica Italiana" on Friday, November 8 at 7:30 PM. This event is in association with the Italy Semester events.
Italy has been a world music center for centuries. From the Renaissance to modern time, Italy has produced numerous great composers, performers, and music. Southern Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Kexi Liu, will perform an all-Italian concert. The program includes Violin Concerto No. 1 by legendary Italian violinist and composer Niccolo Paginini. The featured Violin soloist will be Chin Kim.
Mr. Kim is a top prizewinner in several of the most prestigious international violin competitions including the Concours International de Musique de Montreal, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, the Paginini Competition, and the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. He is also the recipient of the Nan-Pa Prize awarded by the Nan-Pa Foundation in Korea, which is one of the highest honors given to a Korean-born musician. He has performed with major orchestras in America, Asia, and Europe as well as recitals in major concert halls in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Montreal, Toronto, Brussels, and Seoul. Mr. Kim graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music and the Julliard School where he received the Petschek Award and won the Concerto Competition which lead to the performance of the Glazunov Concerto with the Juilliard Philharmonia in Lincoln Center. With his busy performing schedule, he also teaches at the Mannes College of Music in New York.
