Completed in 1372, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is the third oldest structure in Pisa's Cathedral Square. The tower developed the signature lean during construction work when an inadequate foundation resulted in one side of the tower being too heavy for the ground supporting it. The tower stands 183 feet tall on the low side and 186 feet on the high side. It leans at roughly 4 degrees and the top of the tower is displaced horizontally 12 feet and 10 inches from where it would be if the structure would have been built on a proper foundation.
