  Head Softball Coach

Missouri Southern State University, a NCAA Division II member institution and member of the Mid-America Athletic Conference (MIAA), is seeking applications for Head Softball Coach.

MSSU serves nearly 6,000 students in almost 200 academic programs. The institution currently supports over 350 student-athletes across 13 intercollegiate sports and has a rich athletic tradition and history of success. MSSU is currently undergoing major construction and renovations worth an excess of $30 million for projects such as: new residence halls, FEMA shelter, baseball stadium, end zone facility, turf, etc. The institution is located in Joplin, Missouri, in the southwest corner of the state. Considered to be the “Crossroads of America,” Joplin is a friendly city of more than 50,000 with a trade area of close to 500,000 people.

The Head Softball Coach will be responsible for the direction and oversight of a NCAA Division II Softball program at Missouri Southern State University and the coaching functions related to the sport of Softball. These functions include, but are not limited to the following: coaching, recruiting, practice, game day preparation, game strategies, alumni communication, fundraising, student-athlete well-being, student-athlete academic success and management of staff.  It is critical that this position supervise staff, establish a strong working relationship with the University and surrounding community, follow NCAA, MIAA and university rules and regulations, develop the student-athletes physically, mentally and emotionally for Division II competition, organize and manage camps and clinics and any other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. Required qualifications include the following: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Proven ability to lead and manage people. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail and experience in working with a diverse population. Demonstrated ability and success in teaching the skills and fundamentals of the sport. The ability to organize and motivate student-athletes to maximum performance level in sports and academic achievements. Proven experience in recruiting highly motivated and qualified student-athletes. Compliant with all NCAA, conference and university rules and policies. Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, head coaching experience at the collegiate level, and knowledge of the NCAA Division II model. Must be willing to relocate.

Athletics Facilities Coordinator

The  Athletic Facilities Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, scheduling and logistics in all MSSU athletic facilities: Leggett & Platt Athletic Center, Fred G. Hughes Stadium, Young Gym, North End Zone Facility, Warren Turner Field, Softball Complex, Plaster Sports Complex, and Hal Boden Field, for sporting events, community events, and other forms of entertainment. It is the responsibility of the coordinator to maintain facilities’ calendars for all activities and manage utilization of the facilities to maximize space and time considerations. The position will also assist with bid submission, planning, and hosting of NCAA and MIAA post-season events. This position will also assist in planning, directing, coordination of setups, breakdowns and changeovers for sporting events and revenue generating special events occurring in athletic facilities, while also serving as the primary liaison for Athletics with maintenance, facilities improvements, and renovations.

The Athletic Facilities Coordinator is expected to work independently with internal and external constituents including: coaches, athletics administration, ticketing, communications, marketing, development, grounds, custodial, University Police, officials, contractors, vendors, food services, and those outside the University renting the facilities. Assistant Athletic Trainer--Part-time

Job Description:

Missouri Southern State University is currently seeking applications for Athletic Training Internships.  The Athletic Training Internship is a 10-month position starting on August 1st.  Interns will be assigned 2 sports throughout the course of the year.  Interns will cover practices, and games for their assigned sports.  During the typical school day, treatments will be administered in the morning from 8-12.  Interns will be expected to maintain appropriate records using SportsWare, and ImPact.  Interns will provide injury prevention, evaluation of all injuries, as well as treatment and rehabilitation as needed.  Team travel is expected.  Due to conference policy, athletic trainer certification is required to travel.  Additional responsibilities are possible as assigned by the full-time staff.

Compensation includes a $10,000 stipend per academic year, and Missouri Licensure fees paid.  Additional salary is available through camp coverage.

Job Requirements:

Part-time Assistant Football Coach

Missouri Southern State University is seeking applicants for two (2) part-time Assistant Football Coaches. This position will assist the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director in assigned areas. Coaching at practices, coaching at games, and working individually with student-athletes encompass at least 50% of this position’s time. Additional duties may include game travel, staff meetings, fundraising, community service and assisting with summer camps or other duties as assigned. Position is open until filled.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and successful coaching experience at the college or professional level.
