Seniors Barnes and Wood earn All-MIAA recognition

Kansas City, Mo.. - Missouri Southern women's basketball seniors Myosha Barnes (Milwaukee, Wisc.) and India Wood (Athens, Ala.) have been selected to the 2008-09 All-MIAA squad, as announced by the league office today.  Barnes got a second-team nod, while Wood received honorable-mention honors.

Barnes has been simply outstanding during her one-year stay at MSSU after playing three seasons for Division I San Jose State.  Barnes has started every game this year and currently leads Southern with 12.5 ppg, 89 assists, 30 steals and a 47.8 percent field-goal percentage. She has scored a career-best 20 points on two occasions, most recently last Wednesday evening (Feb. 25) against Nebraska-Omaha.

Wood has also shown great senior leadership this season and has been a big contributor for three seasons for the Lions after transferring from Eastern Kentucky.  This year, Wood has also started every game and currently ranks second on the Lions with 11.7 ppg, 83 assists, 57 threes and an 82.6 percent shooting clip from the charity stripe.  Her best game this year came as she led the Lions to a victory at Southwest Baptist by scoring a career-high 32 points and making 11 free throws.

Barnes and Wood are key components of a Lion squad that is the fifth seed at the MIAA Tournament this week.  The Lions will face No. 4-seed Central Missouri on Friday afternoon (Mar. 6) at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.  The Lions and UCM split the season series this year, with each winning on the road. 

The Lions will enter the MIAA Tournament with an 18-9 overall record and a 12-8 conference mark.
