Tyrone Jones is in his seventh year as an assistant coach for the Missouri Southern Lions. In six seasons with coaches Maryann Mitts and Ronda Hubbard, Jones has helped the Lions to an 99-70 record, six straight appearances in the MIAA Postseason Tournament and seven consecutive winning campaigns. Before joining the Missouri Southern staff, Jones served for four years as an assistant coach at Iowa Western Community College. In that time, he has helped lead the Reivers to a combined record of 95-29. Iowa Western qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament in each of those seasons, finishing fifth with a 30-3 record in 2001-02. Jones also spent three seasons as assistant coach at Papillion (Neb.)-LaVista High School, helping lead the squad to a 47-14 record and three straight berths in the state tournament. Jones has also coached Team Nebraska, a member of the Amateur Athletic Union. In 2001-02 he led his 18-and-under team to an eighth-place finish in the nation. “Tyrone’s contacts around the country have been instrumental in getting Missouri Southern’s name out on a more national level,” says head coach Maryann Mitts. Whether it be at the junior college or NCAA Division I level, Tyrone is a known entity to many and has served as a catalyst in recruiting transfer students to Missouri Southern.” |
