Lions add big man from Illinois

Joplin, Mo. -  Missouri Southern men's basketball coach Robert Corn has announced the signing of East Richland High School big man Keane Thomann to a national letter of intent to attend Southern and play basketball beginning in the fall of 2008.

Thomann, a 6-11, 255 pound center out of East Richland High School in Olney, Illinois, played for coach Rob Flanagan where he was a four-year starter for the Tigers.

As a sophomore, Thomann was a second team All-Apollo Conference selection, as well as being named honorable mention All-Area and All-State. He averaged 14.6 points per game and 9.3 rebounds, while shooting 65 percent from the field. Last season, he repeated as the Capitol Classic and Carmi White County Invite MVP, and was a second team All-State selection.

Thomann was All-Conference and All-Area, while being named the Conference MVP. He averaged over 18 points per game, 8.2 rebounds and 3.8 blocks, while going over 1,000 points in his career.

"We are really excited to add a player of Keane's ability to our program," Corn said. "He comes from an excellent high school program and his high school coach, Rob Flanagan, has done a great job developing Keane's skills. We were very fortunate to get him and (assistant coach) Matt Laur really did an excellent job in the recruiting process. I know Keane is really excited to get a chance to work out with coach Laur."

A standout in the classroom, as well, Keane is an honors student and ranks 8th in his high school class of 166.
