42-Hour General Education Block

In order to facilitate the transfer of students among institutions of higher education in Missouri, the Coordinating Board for Higher Education (CBHE) in Missouri has supported the development of a statewide general education policy that is intended to ensure the portability of general education credit among Missouri's colleges and universities.

This policy requires all participating institutions (public and private) in the state to specify and publish a 42 semester-hour block of general education credit which addresses eight state-defined general education goals that will be considered equivalent to corresponding blocks of credit at other participating institutions. For more information about the CBHE's Statewide General Education Policy, see Section II of the Credit Transfer Guidelines for Student Transfer and Articulation Among MO Colleges and Universities.

Students who complete the 42 hour general education block at Missouri Southern may transfer to another participating institution and have their block treated as equivalent to the general education block of the receiving institution. Areas A-H of the general education curriculum constitute the 42 semester hour block that meets the State of Missouri general education goals.

If you have completed areas A-H and wish to have this notation added to your transcript, please contact the Registrar's Office.
