Counseling Services promotes the personal growth and success of students by fostering their intellectual, personal, and psychological well-being.

Counseling Services provides free, individualized, confidential, brief, time-limited counseling sessions for currently enrolled MSSU students. These sessions are geared toward helping students meet the challenges that stand in the way of success. Successful relationships, and personal satisfaction frequently result from the solutions to life problems addressed in college. Members of the counseling staff are available for consultation to students who may have concerns about another student or friend, or about a particular situation. Counseling Services staff are also available to consult with faculty and staff regarding such issues. We can also assist in making referrals to off-campus professionals when specialized or intense long-term services are needed.

Students seek help for a variety of personal issues. Some of the most common are:
  • Self-esteem and identity concerns
  • Relationships (family, friends, significant others)
  • Depression
  • Thoughts of Suicide
  • Anxiety & Panic Attacks
  • Stress
  • Questions about Sexuality
  • Coping with Grief and Loss
  • Body Image Concerns
  • Managing Anger
  • Transitioning to College Life
  • Career and Life Choices
  • Adjusting to Life in the U.S.
  • Other Mental Health Concerns

If you are interested in scheduling an appointment to see a counselor, we ask that you stop by our department located in Billingsly Student Center Suite 347, or call our reception desk at 417-625-9559 or email us at

Prior to your appointment, you will be sent an email appointment reminder, it will include directions on completing a Student Data Form. If you are unable to complete the form before your appointment, please arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your appointment to complete a Student Data Form.
