MSSU Hosts Voter Registration Event and Women's Suffrage Exhibit

MSSU hosts voter registration event and women’s suffrage exhibit.

Missouri Southern’s George A. Spiva Library is partnering with League of Women Voters of the Greater Joplin Area to help the community register to vote or update their registration today, Tuesday Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third floor of the Library.

“For the last few years, the Library has joined hundreds of others across the country by hosting a National Voter Registration Day event for students,” said Amber Carr, assistant library director. “We want to make it as easy of a process as possible for students and what better way than to meet them where they are, on campus.”

The Library is also hosting “Demanding a Greater Future: A Centennial of Women's Suffrage", a traveling exhibit from Lawrence, Kansas celebrating women’s right to vote. The exhibit includes six display panels each featuring pivotal stories and influential women in the long battle for equal rights to vote for women. The efforts in both Kansas and Missouri are highlighted. It also features information regarding the creation of the League of Women Voters. The exhibit will be on display until Oct. 27.

“The exhibit, partnership with League of Women Voters of the Greater Joplin Area, and women's suffrage book display combine for a unique educational experience and aim to get students ready to vote,” said Carr.
