About the Degree

The Kinesiology department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion and Wellness. Graduates are prepared to address the health needs and wellness issues faced by a variety of populations. This degree develops skills to use evidence-based practice to plan and implement health promotion programs. Health Promotion and Wellness degree candidates will enhance their practical skills through pre-professional community and workplace experiences which culminates with a 240-hour internship.

As a graduate of Missouri Southern's Health Promotion and Wellness program, you'll harness your passion for wellness into a fulfilling, life-long career. Picture yourself in one of these positions:

  • Come up with personalized exercise routines as a personal trainer.
  • Perform health consultations as a freelancer.
  • Work for, or manage a fitness center.
  • Help others recover from injury as a physical therapist.
  • Continue on to graduate school to seek additional education as an athletic trainer, occupational therapy, physical therapy, chiropractic, etc.

  • Health Promotion and wellness candidates will improve global health literacy of target populations by engaging in scholarly activity related to health and wellness.

  • Health promotion and wellness candidates will address the needs of target populations by applying evidence-based strategies through planning and implementation of health promotion and wellness programs.
  • Health promotion and wellness candidates will enhance practical skills through mutually beneficial pre-professional community and workplace experiences.

  • Health promotion and wellness candidates will demonstrate written and verbal communication skills for assessing, organizing and implementing health promotion and wellness programs.
