JOPLIN, MO (SNS) – Missouri Southern State University students Ruth Stamper, Carl Junction, and Trenten Henderson, Mt. Vernon, were crowned "75th Anniversary" Homecoming Queen and King today on the MSSU campus.
Coronation of Homecoming Royalty was held at the all-university picnic at noon on campus before a crowd of well-wishers. Stamper and Henderson were crowned by Missouri Southern State University President Dr. Bruce W. Speck and Mrs. Carmen Speck.
Homecoming King Trenten Henderson was sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta. He is the son of Terry and Tammie Henderson of Mt. Vernon. He is a senior who is pursuing a double major in Theatre and English. He is involved in Sigma Tau Delta, Alpha Chi Honor Society, Southern Players and Kappa Delta Pi. His interests include acting, writing, sports including football and basketball, helping children and voice acting.
After graduation from Missouri Southern, he hopes to do stage, film, commercial and voice acting and acquire an agent in St. Louis before traveling to New York. Henderson also plans to teach and continue his avocation of writing.
Homecoming Queen Ruth Stamper also represents Sigma Tau Delta. She is a junior English major from Carl Junction. Her parents are Harvey and Virginia Bendure. On the MSSU campus, she has taken part in the Recreational Employee Council (2011-2012) and Sigma Tau Delta (2012-2013). Her interests include dancing, reading, family, fitness, theatre, running, volunteering and singing. Stamper is the winner of the Charlotte & Randy Hopper Award for most outstanding non-traditional English major at Missouri southern. After receiving her degree from MSSU, she plans to continue on to graduate school to obtain an M.A. or M.A.T. degree.
The King and Queen, along with other finalists, will participate in the Homecoming parade at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6 on the MSSU campus.
Homecoming Royalty will be introduced during halftime activities at the Homecoming football game which begins at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6 at Fred Hughes Stadium on the MSSU campus.
The Homecoming King and Queen were chosen by an election at Missouri Southern on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
