Student, Staffer Honored

JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Mariya Gavrilova of Sofia, Bulgaria, was recognized as Outstanding Student Leader of the Year at the annual Dolence Awards ceremony held Thursday, April 24 at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.

 

Also recognized was Christy Phillips of Joplin, Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students at MSSU. Phillips, who has worked at Missouri Southern for over 34 years, was awarded the Faculty/Staff Leadership Service Award by the Golden Crest of Omicron Delta Kappa.

Phillips received the award for outstanding contributions, service and support of ODK.

Mariya Gavrilova is completing a triple major of Marketing, Management and Spanish. She has served as President of Alpha Chi, Vice President of Omicron Delta Kappa, State President of Missouri Delta Epsilon Chi and Treasurer of the Missouri Southern Student Senate.

Gavrilova is also an active member of the International Club, International Business Club and the Student Advisory Committee for the School of Business, a position in which she has served as chair.

Her volunteer work includes duties at St. John’s Hospital, Spring River Christian Village, the Community Health Clinic and Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce.

Gavrilova is an Evans Scholar in the MSSU Honors Program and has a 4.0 grade point average. She has been awarded the 2008 Outstanding Student Leader in the School of Business.
