MSSU Honors Program

Scholarships

In competing for admission to the Honors Program, candidates are also competing for the Walter and Fredrica Evans Scholarship, as well as the Honors scholarship, both of which will be awarded as funds allow to the most highly qualified applicants as determined by the Honors Program Committee. These scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters and will cover up to 21 credits of tuition in each fall and spring semester. The Evans scholarship also covers the cost of on-campus housing and a meal plan. Students who have an ACT composite score of at least 31 may be considered for the Evans scholarship, which is the finest scholarship that Missouri Southern has to offer.

Typically, between 40 and 45 students are accepted into the Program each year, with 30 to 35 of those receiving the Honors or Evans Scholarship. The remainder receive the MSSU Presidential Scholarship or another academic award. The number of Honors and Evans Scholarships depends on the funds available in any given year. As of 2009, the Presidential Scholarship is worth $1750 per year. The Honors Scholarship is worth up to $6006 per year for Missouri residents and $12,012 per year for nonresidents. The Evans scholarship is worth up to $11,126 per year for Missouri residents and $17,132 for nonresidents. Students receiving the Missouri Department of Higher Education "Bright Flight" award may receive this in addition to the scholarship from Southern. Furthermore, students who arrange with MSSU to study abroad for a fall or spring semester may apply their scholarships to cover the cost of attendance at the foreign university.
