| Wide receivers coach Matt Plunkett is in his
second season with the Lions, and he comes to Missouri Southern after coaching
the Carson-Newman (Tenn.) tight ends during the 2005 season. Prior to joining the Carson-Newman staff, Plunkett was a graduate assistant coach at Pittsburg State University. At PSU, Plunkett coached outside linebackers and helped the Gorillas to the 2004 MIAA title and a berth in the NCAA Division II national championship game. Plunkett was also in charge of the Gorillas' offseason workout program. Plunkett served as a student assistant with the University of Alabama Crimson Tide during the 2002 and 2003 seasons. While at Alabama, he worked with Don Rawson, Crimson Tide video coordinator. Plunkett was a student assistant at North Alabama during the 1999 and 2000 seasons where he worked with quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and special teams. In 2001, he walked on and lettered as a wide receiver and won the Lion "Work Ethic" Award. Plunkett also served as the head equipment manager for the Blue/Gray All-Star Classic in Montgomery in 1999 and 2000. Off the field, Plunkett served as the president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at both Pittsburg State and North Alabama and was a member of the Dean's List. A native of Arab, Ala., Plunkett has a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Alabama and master's degree in physical education from Pittsburg State.
