After two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Northwest Missouri State,
Matt Karleskint is in his fourth season at Missouri Southern. With the Lions,
Karleskint serves as offensive coordinator and also coaches the quarterbacks.
Karleskint mentored quarterback Adam Hinspeter for three seasons and helped
Hinspeter become the all-time completions and passing yardage leader at
Southern, as well as the all-time leader in total offense. Hinspeter also broke
the MIAA record for completions and ranks third in passing yardage and fourth in
total offense.
During his stay at Northwest Missouri State, Karleskint helped the Bearcats to a
22-6 combined record and two berths in NCAA Division II postseason play.
Northwest advanced to the NCAA-II championship game in 2005, finishing as
national runner-up to Grand Valley State.
Karleskint worked with running backs at Northwest Missouri State and coached a
1000-yard rusher, in Xavier Omon, both seasons with the Bearcats. In 2004, NWMSU
ranked second in the MIAA in rushing offense, averaging 197.4 yards per game
over the entire 13-game schedule. In 2005, the Bearcats averaged 125.7 rushing
yards per game with 22 rushing touchdowns. Omon compiled more than 1800
all-purpose yards in 2005, and had nearly 1700 all-purpose yards in 2004.
In 2002-04, Karleskint was the wide receivers/quarterbacks coach at Ottawa
(Kan.) University. During his tenure, Ottawa was conference champion and the No.
5 scoring offense in NAIA in 2003.
Karleskint was a two-time all-conference quarterback at Kansas Wesleyan
University. A native of Fort Scott, Kan., he was a three-sport student-athlete
at Fort Scott High School. He later played quarterback at Fort Scott Community
College before transferring to KWU for his final two seasons.
Karleskint earned a bachelor's degree in health, physical education and
recreation from KWU in 2001. He earned a master's degree in athletic
administration from Northwest Missouri State in 2005. Karleskint and his wife
Kati have a daughter, Alli.
