I believe that our students are our most valuable resource. Helping Southern students make good decisions about their choice of major, encouraging their involvement in college activities and in taking ownership of their education is what I am about. I am always reminding students to "BREATHE!" I am an Alum of Missouri Southern Class of '83 and in my 28th year at Missouri Southern. I have a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration and have completed course work for my Doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Leadership. My husband Mike and I have three children, and two grandchildren. In my spare time I love reading a book while sipping a good-hot cup of coffee.
Hello, I was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa and so as I have been often told by many honest Americans, I have an accent. This always makes people who meet me the first time, ask me where I originally come from. I am often tempted to say "from my parents", but I usually tell them I am from Joplin, which then leads to the next question, "for real, where do you originally come from". I am fluent in multiple Ghanaian languages including Fanti, Twi and Ga. I moved to the US many years ago. I am married and have two young men I call my sons. I love these three men in my life! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor by profession, having graduated from the MSSU Honors Program with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Community Counseling from Pittsburg State University in Kansas. I worked for Ozark Center New Directions for a period of time and joined the MSSU staff in January of 2006 as an advisor and clinical counselor. I enjoy working with students as they navigate college life and press on in the face of challenges to reach their college goals. I usually participate in the MSSU graduation ceremonies and it always gives me great pleasure and satisfaction when I see students that I have worked with walk across the stage to receive their diploma. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and walking. I am also actively involved in my church. I can cook, but lately, I don't enjoy cooking as much, but I still cook because I have to eat. I try to believe the best in people and do my best to encourage and support those that I come into contact with.
I was born, raised, and educated in Kansas. I had the most unconventional, yet unbelievable college experience; those experiences are what make me excited to be a part of Missouri Southern State University. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Master of Science and an Education Specialist in Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I work in the Advising, Counseling, & Testing office as a Clinical Counselor/Academic Advisor, serving the mental health needs of students as well as the academic needs of undecided majors. I coordinate Student Athlete Affairs and work primarily with athletes who are undecided on their major. Prior to coming to MSSU in 2008 I was a Clinical Program Coordinator at Heartland Behavioral Health Services in Nevada, MO. Cooking is my passion, and collecting cookbooks is a hobby of mine. I have deemed myself a Master Chef. My wonderful husband and stepson enjoy tasting my recipes. Trying new recipes and putting my own spin on them makes for an interesting meal at dinner time. I have a brain full of useless trivia information that comes in quite handy at the most unusual times.
I was born in Arkansas and moved to Missouri during my pre-teen years. I am a first generation college student and always knew that I would get a college degree. I received my Bachelor of Science in Sociology here at Missouri Southern and went on to get a Master of Science in Criminal Justice. I love working with and helping people. All my education and experience led me to Missouri Southern where I am currently the Testing Coordinator and Academic Advisor. I also teach a Career and Life Planning class. Teaching is my true passion. I love education and being a part of the education process. Of course I wouldn't be who I am today with the support of my family. I have a wonderful husband whom I've been married to for 60% of my life and we have a daughter and grandson. I lead a very blessed life and am fortunate to work in the ACTS office.
