A major in Biochemistry is appropriate for students who are interested in advanced studies, such as graduate or professional school. The Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry is appropriate for students who need some knowledge of chemistry as a basis for work in other fields, but who do not expect to become professional chemists.
The Biochemistry major is particularly suited for pre-professional students. In fact, a Biochemistry major is at many universities considered the default “premed” major.
