Drafting and Design Engineering Technology (DDET)

The Drafting and Design Engineering Technology (DDET) program prepares students to enter the ever-changing and highly challenging field of engineering as engineering technologists in the fields of manufacturing, civil, architecture, or construction.

This program is accredited by TAC (Technology Accreditation Commission) of ABET. The ABET accreditation is used to assure quality in educational institutions and programs. Accreditation is a voluntary, non-governmental process of peer review. It requires an educational institution or program to meet defined standards or criteria.

Program Mission

The mission of the DDET program is to prepare students to work in the Engineering Technology disciplines related to the field of drafting and design. The students will gain exposure to solving open-ended, real world applied engineering problems.

Program Objectives:

The Engineering Technology department at Missouri Southern will produce graduates who:

  1. have an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of engineering technology.
  2. have the ability to apply current knowledge and adapt to emerging applications of mathematics, science, engineering and technology.
  3. are able to identify and analyze problems and design effective engineering technology based solutions.
  4. contribute professionally by functioning effectively on teams.
  5. communicate effectively with professionals and lay audiences.
  6. have an understanding for the discipline of engineering technology and its role in a societal and global context.

The requirements for the Associate of Science degree in DDET provide a broad base of analytical, technical, and Core Curriculum courses. Drafting and Design hardware and software are used to enhance traditional instruction methods in all courses. Built into the curriculum is an emphasis on both the study and application of engineering design technology. The documents and drawings produced by the DDET graduate would be based upon sketches, specifications, and calculations made by scientists, engineers, architects, and designers. Material specification is an essential part of the DDET program of study.

The DDET program is supported by the latest technology in both hardware and software. All of our labs run the latest versions of Autodesk products covering the following fields of design/engineering: Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Manufacturing. This program is accredited by TAC of ABET.
