2017 Festival Presents The Complete Works of William Shakespear (Abridged) and A Midsummer Night's Dream
The Missouri Shakespeare Festival is a project of Missouri Southern State University and the MSSU Theatre Department. Our aim is to offer the plays of William Shakespeare in productions that are insightful, exciting, and entertaining. Shakespeare’s plays are as wonderful as they ever were. Across the nation, people of all ages respond to their clever plots, engaging characters, and universal themes. Our hope is to establish the Festival as one of our region’s important cultural offerings; an annual event that attracts both our local audience and visitors to the Four States.
This summer, June 19-24, we will offer two productions in repertory: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). The first, of course, is Shakespeare’s timeless classic of moonlight, mischief, and magic. The second, the work of The Reduced Shakespeare Company written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, is a crazy mash-up of the Bard and buffoonery. 37 plays in 97 minutes!
The production of A Midsummer Night's Dream will be held on June 20th, 22nd and 24th while The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) will be held on June 19th, 21st and 23rd.
Shakespeare is forever. He is always in fashion. As his work is encountered anew by each generation, Shakespeare still offers a unique choice among entertainment options. Join with us and be a part of the Missouri Shakespeare Festival.

"Under love's heavy burden do I sink." Young Romeo was correct. We often do sink under the burden of the things we love. And, so it is in the theatre. Creating a production is not only hard work, it is an expensive proposition. We surely love the endevour, but need your help to bear the heavy burden of production cost.
Last year's production cost a minimum of $5,000 to stage. Costumes, lighting, props, set design materials, promotion, etc. all cost money. Keeping audience members transfixed and energized requires more than effort alone!
For that reason, The Missouri Shakespeare Festival welcomes the financial support of theater lovers. If you love Shakespeare, we invite you to play a special role in the Missouri Shakespeare Festival by helping defray the costs for the 2017 production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Please call 417-625-9396 or give a gift now and help support the festival. Payments may be made in a single installment or as two, three, four or five annual installments. Under "Restriction" please put "Missouri Shakespeare Festival."
