2016 Festival Presents Romeo and Juliet
"For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo..."
It is one of Shakespeare's most produced plays. And for good reason, who can't relate to chasing after young, forbidden, undeniable passion. As we approach this production with fresh eyes and eager minds, we look to hold true to Shakespeare's intentions while dazzling the modern audience with new and innovative ideas. It's sure to be one of our freshest productions.
As the festival approaches, you'll find more information about the production here. But, none want to stumble, so let us move wisely and slow...
The production of Romeo and Juliet will take place at 7:30 p.m. on June 23-25 and at 2:30 p.m. on June 26 in the Bud Walton Theatre at MSSU.

"Under love's heavy burden do I sink." Young Romeo was correct. We often do sink under the burden of the things we love. And, so it is in the theatre. Creating a production is not only hard work, it is an expensive proposition. We surely love the endevour, but need your help to bear the heavy burden of production cost.
Last year's production cost a minimum of $5,000 to stage. Costumes, lighting, props, set design materials, promotion, etc. all cost money. Keeping audience members transfixed and energized requires more than effort alone!
For that reason, The Missouri Shakespeare Festival welcomes the financial support of theater lovers. If you love Shakespeare, we invite you to play a special role in the Missouri Shakespeare Festival by helping defray the costs for the 2016 production of Romeo and Juliet.
