Certificate in Medical Interpretation (Spanish/English)

The certificate requires the student to complete two mandatory upper-division Spanish courses in addition to a minimum of three hours of internship.

  1. The course may be waived if a student's language proficiency level is Intermediate High or higher as indicated by the Minnesota Language Proficiency Assessments for Reading and Listening (MLPA).
  2. Conducted at St. John's Regional Medical Center Joplin, MO. Students must attain A Guide to Internships packet from the Department of Foreign Languages and fill out all necessary paperwork in consultation with the Program Supervisor of Medical Interpretation Spanish/English.
  3. Students need to be assessed at the Intermediate High or higher level consistent with ratings set by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) prior to enrolling in SPAN 360 or 430. Students must consult the Department Secretary for applicable fees.
