Financial Aid

Welcome to the Financial Aid home page.

MSSU has many sources of aid available. Please keep in mind that the Financial aid office at MSSU is an electronic system using little or no paper as a result of the E-Commerce Act of 1998; please use the following concise list of steps to guide you through the process of applying for financial aid.

  1. You must request a Pin number (personal identification number) from the Department of Education when completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and understand how to use it. If you are single dependent (under the age of 24 without dependents of your own), your parents should apply for a Pin.
  2. You must have an active e-mail account and monitor it.  All correspondence from the Financial Aid Office will be sent to that e-mail address.  If you do not have an e-mail address you may go to a free e-mail service such as http://www.hotmail.com and request  one. If you do not have access to a computer, you may use one of the many available on campus.
  3. After you are admitted to Missouri Southern and enrolled you will be given a temporary basic ID and password.  On the university’s main web page you will highlight “Campus Services” then click on information services.  Click on LionLink toward the bottom of the page for information and services pertaining to you.
  4. The first time you sign into the LionLink system you will be assigned a MOSO ID and password.  You will be assigned a campus email account, access to MSSU campus network, Blackboard Account, MSSU’s proxy server, and your student information on LionLink.
  5. Lion Link provides access to your personal data, fee statements, registration, grades, schedule, transcripts, and etc.  In addition, you will be able to see pending and awarded financial aid on your fee statement.
  6. You will use you Pin number to make corrections to your FAFSA information, sign master promissory notes, look up personal data on federal systems, request deferments, and access campus accounts.  Please protect your personal information.  You will use your e-mail account to respond to award letters, request for information for such things as verification of data, and acceptance of scholarships.
  7. For your information, all records are kept in electronic format with few exceptions.  Those students selected for verification by the Department of Education will be required to give the Financial Aid Office a photocopy of tax data.  All correspondence, likewise, is done through e-mail, so it is imperative that you have an e-mail address and monitor it for communications from the Financial Aid Office.
  8. Each type of financial aid has an application deadline. Click here for deadline information.
