75th Anniversary Celebration

Welcome to the Missouri Southern State University 75th Anniversary website. We invite you to visit the 75th Anniversary website often for news, special events and other information related to this year-long celebration that will begin in August 2012 and conclude at our May 2013 Commencement. We invite you to participate in all of the anniversary special events designed to celebrate the growth and development of MSSU including its contributions to the cultural and economic vitality of the communities served by the University.

Alumni Survey

As we plan events, activities, exhibits and start to collect histories of faculty, staff and alumni, we want your input to make the 75th anniversary of Missouri Southern State University as rich and diverse as possible.

Share your memories at Missouri Southern by completing this survey for the Alumni Association. Did you marry your college sweetheart? Where did you hang out? What years did you attend Joplin Junior College, Missouri Southern State College, or Missouri Southern State University? Share these and other fond memories of your experiences that may be used in print publications and on our website.

Tell us about relationships with your fellow students or professors that changed your life; stories about clubs and Greek life; or how your MSSU experience stayed with you in your career or personal life. History

Time passes quickly! From MSSU's roots in 1937 as Joplin Junior College in a shared facility with the Joplin School District to today's expansive 373-acre campus and nearly 6,000 students, 75 years has passed in a flash. While Missouri Southern is still consider a "young" institution in the State of Missouri and the nation's higher education family, it has grown rapidly from its junior college birth to its comprehensive and high quality academic programs offered today. 75th Anniversary Mission

The purpose of this75th Anniversary Celebration Steering Committee is to provide leadership and planning for the 75th Anniversary celebration of Missouri Southern State University. We will provide a fun-filled academic year (’12-’13) of activities and events that celebrate our pride in MSSU’s history, people, and traditions that tell the story of its remarkable growth since its founding in 1937.

Goal

The goals of the 75th Anniversary Celebration Steering Committee are to highlight the achievements of the University, to celebrate the growth and the success of Missouri Southern State University and its Alumni, and to engage communities and region served by MSSU in a series of events and initiatives that began in August 2012 through the end of the 2012-2013 academic year. Events will be a combination of academic presentations and lectures; gatherings and reunions for alumni, friends and supporters; athletic contests; cultural performances and exhibitions and student celebrations.
