Music Department Awards

In addition to academic scholarships and other financial awards available by direct application to the Financial Aid Office, a limited number of music department performance awards are available to students.

Both music majors and non-majors are eligible for scholarships. An audition is required and the amount of award is based on the performance level of the audition and the specific vocal/instrumental needs of the department. The Music Department offers the following performance awards:

Performance Award Requirements

Scholarship Form

Music Majors must enroll as a music major each semester. In addition, each semester music majors must enroll in the music courses listed in the suggested order of study for that semester and complete each course with a minimum grade of a C.

If an award recipient does not meet any one of the above requirements, the student will receive a letter stating this deficiency and the award will be revoked. If the Department Head, in conjunction with the music faculty, costs there is a strong chance the student will succeed in the following semester, the award will continue under a probationary semester. Should the student not meet the required criteria for a second time, the award will be revoked for a period of one (1) semester. After which time the student may reapply for an award.

If the student fails to meet any of the requirements following reinstatement, the award will be permanently revoked.

Endowed Scholarship Funds

  • The I.D. and Lorene Newton Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • The Winifred Wild Cunningham Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • The Helen S. Boylan Scholarship Fund

The music faculty awards these performance awards. Students are invited to talk to the Music Department Head about the above awards and the specific requirements of each.
