From the President, Dr.
Bruce Speck
Welcome to Missouri Southern State University. As President, I want to
extend a hearty Southern welcome!
Your future is bright at Southern. You will find more than 100 majors
and degree options, new cooperative graduate programs, more than 80 student
organizations, exciting and competitive NCAA Division II athletics programs,
a beautiful 373-acre campus, a stimulating international mission, a vigorous
and extensive distance learning program, modern state-of-the-art facilities,
and much, much more.
As a student here, you will enjoy a wide range of activities outside
the classroom, including a vibrant intramural program, inspiring plays,
concerts, and art exhibits, and plenty of fun.
Our faculty and staff work diligently to provide you with a successful
academic experience.
Students will soon enjoy the new George Beimdiek Recreation Center. The
65,000 sq. ft. facility will feature a new Student Health Center, three-court
gymnasium, elevated jogging track, two 4,000 sq. ft. fitness areas with
cardiovascular weight machines and free weights, two fitness class studios,
a fitness testing center, locker rooms and showers and a 150-seat theatre-auditorium.
The building is scheduled for completion by the fall 2009 semester.
Nursing, Dental Hygiene and Allied Health programs will soon have a new
home in our $25 million Health Sciences Building, designed to meet the
state's needs in these critical health care fields.
