| Missouri Southern is
located at the gateway to the Ozarks on a beautiful 365-acre
campus in Joplin, Missouri, U.S.A. In addition to
modern state-of-the-art facilities, the campus has many open
areas, including the Biology Pond that features an oriental
bridge, where students can go to relax and enjoy nature. The
pond was a former Olympic-size swimming pool used by residents
of the Mission Hills Mansion. In the fall of 1972, concrete
walls were removed and it was returned to its state as a natural
spring-fed pond. The water flows from an aquifer, which maintains
a steady flow of 55 degree (F) water. With its concrete bottom,
the pond has been an environmental success for 30 years, supporting
various wildlife, a walking trail, and the oriental bridge,
donated by Russell Smith II, in memory of his son. |
