The Bud Walton
theatre is a relatively new space to the Southern Theatre. This theatre was built in 1999-2000 and has
become the primary performance space for our department. The intimacy of the theatre and the
flexibility of the space is probably the best parts of
the theatre. There have been productions
that the audiences are less than a foot away from the actors on the stage. We can seat 220 people in the round. 200 in
alley formation, 180 in thrust and depending on the arrangement of the risers
and seats from 100 to 150 in a proscenium type seating. The space is usually
arranged and masked by black velour curtains.
By looking at the pictures you can tell why the Walton theatre is
exactly what it’s called because it is a big black box. Lighting positions are from a catwalk system
16 feet above the floor. There are 120
plus Etc sensor dimmers. The lighting
console is an ETC 48 96 and it can be positioned in 6 different locations. The
lighting inventory is shared with T.P.A.C. and can be viewed on the tech specs
page. The sound system is comprised of 2 15” EV speakers, Allen and Heath
24 channel board and is powered by a Raine 6 channel
amp. A Tascam cd player, mini disc, and duel tape
deck. The sound system can also be set
up in 6 different locations. We have
also recently installed a close circuit Infra red video monitor system that
allows the stage manager to see the stage in the dark. Take a look at the links below to see
pictures of the black box theatre.
