PAL
and NTSC Conversion

Some countries use different formats
for video tapes. Two most widely used formats are PAL (Europe,
Asia) and NTSC (USA, Mexico).
So if you have a tape from your Russian
friend and cannot watch it, then that's probably the case.
Your VCR is set up to play NTSC tapes and the tape you have
is in PAL.
1. First of all, you can check if you
VCR has a NTSC/PAL switch, because some advanced VCRs have
it. If this is the case, you just set you VCR to the PAL mode.If
you VCR can only play NTSC tapes, then you've got a problem.
2. You either need to buy a new VCR
that plays PAL or, if you are a MSSC student or a faculty
member, you can request your tapes to be converted into NTSC
format at the
International Language Resource
Center Webster Hall, Room #343.
