The Staff Senate of Missouri Southern State University shall consist of all MSSU employees who are classified as exempt or non-exempt personnel, who hold a non-academic position by primary appointments as defined by the MSSU Policy Guide and are not protected by tenure, per the MSSU Staff Senate Bylaws.
The Staff Senate represents all classified and professional support staff employees through regularly scheduled meetings and special meetings as called by the Staff Senate Chair. The Staff Senate, in turn, communicate information to the classified and professional support staff, serve on one or more of the standing or special events committees, and continually strive to develop membership participation in Staff Senate activities.
The Staff Senate will communicate to the President's Council, the University Administration and the Board of Governors employee concerns, suggestions, and relevant feedback regarding various issues.
The Southern Service Champ Award is a quarterly award given to three outstanding staff*. Nomination criteria for the award must meet at least one of the five pads of the lion paw: Respect to campus community, Positive attitude, Pride in work, Exemplary dependability and Excellence in customer service.
Nominations for the January 1st-March 31st Southern Service Champ Award quarter can be submitted anytime during the quarter period. Nominations may be done online or hardcopy. Please campus mail hardcopies to Josh Doak-Staff Senate Election Committee Chair
Eligibility requirements are at least 1 year continuous employment at 50% FTE as a university staff member. Nominating or campaigning for self will result in immediate removal of consideration. Nominations cannot be retracted once submitted. Individuals can only win award once every two years. No limit in number of different nominations submitted.
No award is given the final quarter of the year to avoid conflict with the Superior Service Award given in December.
*Reflects change approved by Staff Senate from one award for classified, profession and physical plant to three awards to any staff category starting first quarter of 2014.
